Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa Huntington Beach, California
Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa ‘Slyders’ is a water park and pool area; built to provide additional resort activities and amenities at their existing Huntington Beach location. The project required the removal of the existing resort tennis courts and garden areas to allow for the new construction. The existing hill was cut back for a new subterranean, cast-in-place equipment vault built on driven piles. This vault houses the new pool, fountain and slide equipment. The vault was backfilled and covered to create a hill which serves as the landings for (3) new waterslides. Along with the waterslides, the new pool area includes (5) pools, water features, a tiered, acid-washed colored concrete deck, private cabanas, surround sound and fire pits.
New facilities were also constructed consisting of both snack shack and restroom buildings; the architecture and finishes tie the surf resort, beach and pool theme together. Over (60) trees were salvaged from the resort site, which provided immediate natural and mature landscaping to complete the project. The Hyatt remained in full operation during construction as the new amenities required utility services that had to be accessed and run from within the operating resort.
