42,000 square foot alteration of an existing building including structural upgrades to the shell, site improvements, new mechanical system, 5,000 square feet of poured-in-place concrete vaults, and complete build-out of labs and lab support areas. The laboratory space totaled 17,000 square feet and was equipped with 41 fume hoods, strobic exhaust fans, (2) poured-in-place vaults, 7 mil fragment retention film on the perimeter windows, bulletproof drywall and doors at the secure lobby, compressed air system, pure water system, (1) AHU to serve lab areas, and (1) AHU to serve the administration areas. The mechanical, electrical, and plumbing for the project was extensive and because of the compact space within the existing building, BIM was heavily used on the project for coordination. Lusardi collaborated with the design team and subcontractors to create a BIM model that showed the hierarchy of the systems. The model was extensively used for clash detection and its success ultimately aided in keeping the project on schedule.
